MARCH, 2020 WORD OF THE MONTH:
FORGIVENESS: DECIDING THAT SOMEONE WHO HAS WRONGED YOU DOESN'T HAVE TO PAY.
MAT CHAT TOPIC OF THE MONTH: ETHICS
OUR ETHICS ARE OUR PERSONAL RULES FOR HOW WE LIVE. WE CAN HAVE GOOD ETHICS, OR BAD ETHICS. EXAMPLES OF GOOD ETHICS COULD INCLUDE, " I WILL WORK HARD," I WILL BE HONEST," OR " I WILL BE KIND TO OTHERS."
DEAR PARENTS AND/OR GUARDIANS:
This month we are learning about ethics. Ethics are the sum total of every other value we have learned, or will learn, in these lessons. Having good ethics means having good patterns of behavior: one act of positive behavior does not equate to having good ethics, nor does one mistake equate to poor ethics. Therefore, it is important to take a "big picture" view in discussing ethics with your children.
HOW CAN YOU HELP??
** Be constistent in both rewarding and disciplining children.
Going to far in one direction or the other (for example, heaping praise on them for basic politeness, or grounding them for a month for forgetting to take out the trash) will lead to confusion.
** Take time to discuss the values that are important to you and to your family and how your children can live up to them.
**Be clear in your expectations for them.
What do you consider basic politeness? What is necessary respect? What behaviors are absolutely not tolerated?
HAVE A GREAT MONTH!!
