Word of the month
JANUARY, 2019 WORD OF THE MONTH: SELF-CONTROL:
CHOOSING TO DO WHAT YOU SHOULD DO EVEN WHEN YOU DON'T WANT TO.
MAT CHAT TOPIC OF THE MONTH:
IT IS IMPORTANT THAT WE SET GOALS FOR OURSELVES! GOALS GIVE US A PATH TO FOLLOW TO SUCCESS, AND ACCOMPLISHING A GOAL ALLOWS US TO FEEL GOOD ABOUT OURSELVES. WRITING DOWN YOUR GOALS CAN HELP YOU PLAN!
DEAR PARENTS AND/OR GUARDIANS:
This month we are discussing the importance of having goals. The martial arts provide a wonderful environment to learn about this subject, as students are encouraged to set goals for their progress in training, whether that's learning a new move or earning the next belt. We want to take it a step further and inspire students to set ambitious goals for themselves outside of class too.
HOW CAN YOU HELP??
** Encourage your child to talk to you about their goals. Share your goals with them, and how you're working towards accomplishing them.
** When your child accomplishes one of their goals, tell them, "That's wonderful!, I knew you could do it!" Knowing that you believed in them will encourage your child and help them reach for even higher goals.
** If they fail to meet a goal ( for example, they lost a school spelling bee when their goal was to win), let them know that one failure is not the end! Remind them that the worst thing that can happen to a goal is giving up without trying.
** Make sure your child knows the importance of both long and short term goals; what they want to accomplish one week from now, one month from now, or even one year from now!
HAVE A GREAT MONTH!!
Happy New Year!
