JULY, 2019 WORD OF THE MONTH: EXCELLENCE:
AN EXCELLENT OR VALUABLE QUALITY. (BLACK BELT EXCELLENCE)
MAT CHAT TOPIC OF THE MONTH:
EVERYONE MAKES MISTAKES OR DOES SOMETHING WRONG FROM TIME TO TIME! SOMETIMES, THE THINGS THAT OTHER PEOPLE DO, ACCIDENTALLY OR ON PURPOSE, CAN HURT US. WHEN THIS HAPPENS, WE CAN STAY MAD AT THE PERSON WHO HURT US- OR WE CAN CHOOSE TO FORGIVE THEM. FORGIVENESS LETS US MOVE ON WITH OUR LIVES.
DEAR PARENTS AND/OR GUARDIANS:
This month, we are learning about forgiveness. This attribute may not come naturally to young children. In some instances- for example, a fight with a friend- they may simply forget the incident and resume the friendship without expressing forgiveness. In other cases, they may hold grudges for trivial reasons, ruining the friendship. You can help by teaching them the need for conscious, active forgiveness
HOW CAN YOU HELP??
** Avoid constantly reminding them of past misdeeds.
If disciplinary action is needed (e.g. a time-out) then carry out the punishment, but don't drag up the issue once the duration of the punishment has passed.
** Apologize to them when you make a mistake.
This will give them practice in being forgiving, and, more importantly, will show them the value of an apology. If their role models can apologize, so can they.
**Have you children write down the things they are forgiving someone for on a piece of paper.
Then, have them rip up the paper and throw it away. Explain that forgiveness means letting go of past wrongs.
**Forgiveness does not mean letting the same person hurt is again and again.
If you or your child are dealing with a situation where the risk of being hurt is too great if you continue to associate with a certain person, explain that it is possible to forgive someone for a serious wrongdoing without letting them back into your life in the same capacity as before, or at all.
HAVE A GREAT MONTH!!
