OCTOBER, 2019 WORD OF THE MONTH:
COURAGE: BEING BRAVE ENOUGH TO DO WHAT YOU SHOULD DO EVEN WHEN YOUR'RE AFRAID.
MAT CHAT TOPIC OF THE MONTH:
WE MAKE DECISIONS EVERY DAY OF OUR LIVES. MAKING GOOD DECISIONS HELPS US STAY ON THE PATH TO A GOOD, HAPPY FUTURE! SOMETIMES, MAKING GOOD DECISIONS CAN BE TOUGH. EITHER WE DON'T KNOW WHICH DECISION IS RIGHT, OR THE RIGHT DECISION IS A HARD ONE TO MAKE.
DEAR PARENTS AND/OR GUARDIANS:
This month, we are learning about Decisions. Your children will be encouraged to develop their decision making skills by considering the consequences of their decisions and learning to see their decisions as complex actions that can affect both themselves and those around them. We will also touch on the trait of self-control, which is essential for making good decisions.
HOW CAN YOU HELP??
** Work on your children's critical thinking skills.
When your child asks you, "Can I.....?" instead of saying "No, " ask them, "Can you think of a reason why you shouldn't?" If they say there is no reason, gently prompt them. If they answer honestly, praise them and remind them of the importance of making good decisions.
Child: Can I play a video game?
Parent: Can you think of a reason why you shouldn't?
Child: Well.... I have a homework assignment due tomorrow that I still need to do.
Parent: Right. And if you wait until later, you'll rush, and you won't do as well on it.
Child: If I finish all of my homework first then let you check it, can I play a game?
Parent: That sounds like a good decision!
HAVE A GREAT MONTH!!
