Mr. Steve Kirk  (3rd Degree Black Belt Instructor)
Mr. Steve Kirk started his martial arts training in 1992. He received his Black Belt in American SAMBO (also SOMBO or CAMBO) in 1995 at Millersville University while the art was still fairly new in the United States. SAMBO, which is a Russian-based martial art, is an acronym for SAMozashchita Bez Oruzhiya, or self-defense without a weapon. In 1993, he represented the United States at the World University Games in Buffalo, NY in an exhibition competition against the Russian Cambo team. Since then, Mr. Kirk has trained in various arts including Jiu Jitsu, Tae Kwon Do, American Karate, Aikido, and Isshinryu Karate, earning his 2nd Degree Black Belt In American Karate/ Tae Kwon Do in May, 2017, and his 3rd Degree Black Belt on December 14th, 2019. He enjoys the mental and spiritual development aspects of martial arts, as well as pure self-defense applications. He works as a Senior Engineering Project Manager for the City of Charleston, managing the very large drainage improvement projects on the peninsula and in West Ashley. In addition to martial arts, he enjoys an active lifestyle including yoga and running, and occasionally finds time to play the piano.
